The Black and White Series

This is the first installment of my Black and White Series.  Some photos have names because they made themselves known by their name, immediately upon sight before the shutter even closed.  Other photos just found themselves into the camera.  They are not loved any less but they are works in progress.  If I hear their names, I will write it down...

(Adoration)

(Call on the Lord)

(Reaching to the heavens)

(Hope Springs Eternal)

(Intersecting Religion)

(Mexican Embassy)

(Tree of Life)

(A little bit of Me)

(Out of the Darkness)

The Franciscan Monastery

Every time I visit the Monastery I am overwhelmed by the peaceful surroundings.  Yes it is within the city, not far from a metro line and not far from a well traveled road on which people make their way from Maryland to DC and vice versa, but the city is not within the Monastery gates.  Within the confines of the gates of the Monastery, a stillness exists.  It is not uncomfortable nor is it oppressive.  It simply lulls each visitor into a quiet contemplation.  What each person contemplates is for him or her to decide (my sneaking feeling is that it is whatever has been on his/her mind of late), but one can not help but to become more inwardly focused.  I guess it is doing what a monastery is supposed to do...provide a secluded spot of meditation and simplicity.

Didn't I tell you about it? You've got to try one!!

Remarkable invention the Segway.  I had no idea that the manuevering of the machine was due to the individual's stance and balance.  Lean forward and you shall move forward.  Lean back and you shall reverse.  Stand perfectly straight and in complete alignment and your segway will stop!  How ingeneous!

I wonder if we as a society can appreciate the deeper significance of the intuitive nature of the Segway.  As with a Segway, the same motions/forces we exert upon ourselves will determine our direction as well.

On to the pictures of my tour... Did I tell you about it?  It was grand!  You simply must try it for yourself!

(Tour Guide and fellow participant... a great group of folks!)

(The highly anticipated Newseum)

Brunch at the Tabbard Inn--- Isn't it Fabulous????

The food is truly great!  And, the atmosphere and air of excitement adds to the general feeling of warmth and comfort.  As you wait to be seated with others, a rare feeling of ease is felt in this medium sized antechamber.  The warm breakfast breads and muffins are the perfect companion to what will be a comforting meal.
